Simplicity - St. Francis lived like a beggar; he wore a coarse dress and ate simple food. He simplified his life in order to focus on things that are most important and disregard or avoid things that are least important.
Prayerfulness - For two years, St. Francis lived in cave, praying and meditating.
Love for Nature/Animals - St. Francis loved God’s creatures. He loved birds and beasts. He treated the birds, the beasts and all beings as brothers and sisters.
Discipline - In all his actions, St. Francis sought to follow fully and literally the way of life demonstrated by Christ in the Gospels.
Brotherhood/Sisterhood - Companions came to St. Francis, people who wanted to follow his way of life. His companions came from all walks of life. He practiced true equality by showing honor, respect and love to every person whether they were beggars or pope.
Charity - St. Francis gave what he had in his pocket to the poor, e.g beggar. he gave his clothes, goods and money to the poor.
